New England Patriots Super Bowl Champs

Patriots Vs Texans Preview

The Patriots are taking on the Houston Texans in a few short hours today.

It doesn’t have the same hype as last year when the two teams faced off on Monday Night Football and the Texans showed up wearing Letterman Jackets.

But that doesn’t mean the Texans are incapable of beating the New England Patriots because they definitely are. There is a good chance the Patriots show up emotionless after their emotion filled comeback against the Broncos and are mentally not in the game. They may over look the Texans too, and the Texans will be totally focused on the Pats. I’m not saying it will happen but we see it all the time and there is good chance it happens today.

The Patriots are looking to avoid a letdown but we will see how it shakes out in Houston.

The Patriots scheme last week wasn’t geared toward stopping the run, and they gave up over 200 yards to Knowshon Moreno, who had a heck of a game. This game the Pats defensive scheme should be geared more toward stopping the run. They are facing a rookie QB and they want to take Ben Tate, a good RB, out of the game and limit his impact. They want the Texans to rely on the pass to beat them. So the Pats run defense will have a big task tomorrow against Ben Tate, a guy who can be a great runningback. Tate runs tough and is hard to bring down so the Pats better be ready to stop that first.

Offensively, New England wants to limit J.J. Watt’s impact in the game.

They have to protect Tom Brady, as they need too every week because when he is on the offense is great.

J.J. Watt is the Texans best defensive player and if he can’t be blocked then the Texans defense is great and they will stop any offense. If the Texans are getting to Brady and Watt is getting pressure don’t look for New England to win, at least not impressively.

The Patriots want to connect on a few quick plays so they can get their offense into the no huddle mode. They are a much better offense when they run no huddle.

The passing game is so much better in the no huddle and against a defense like the Texans it can and will work wonders. The Patriots will look for quick passes and a quick tempo to slow down any pressure from the Texans defense and they can take advantage of a so – so Texans secondary.

The Patriots will probably start the game off slow tomorrow, especially on offense, and I expect this game to be a close one. The Patriots will hopefully wake up in the second half to win the game but they need to be focused because the Texans can and will beat them if they are not.
