Patriots sign WR Austin Collie

The Patriots have signed veteran receiver Austin Collie.

Collie was spotted at practice today for the Patriots, and he will wear number 10.

If it wasn’t for his concussion prone past, Collie would be signed to a team already because he’s such a talent at wide receiver. Collie has suffered some scary concussions and in 2012 he had a ruptured patellar tendon.

Collie is smart, instinctive, fast, and a good handed receiver. Collie played with the Colts who ran a similar offense to the Patriots so transitioning to this offense should be easier for Collie.

What I wonder is will Collie play, or is he just a depth chart move?

I hope he plays because he can bring something to this offense and is a legit talent. Yes, he is injury prone just like Amendola, and if he gets another concussion he should hang up his cleats for good, but I hope he gets the chance to play with the Patriots and Tom Brady. I think he adds another legit, good, and solid weapon for QB Tom Brady.

If Collie plays, and when he is catching 7 passes for 100 yards a couple of scores, people will be singing a different tune and love this move. But, yes, lets not overlook his history with concussion but I agree with this move. If New England uses him, and he stays healthy, he can help out this offense in a big way.

Collie has played outside receiver and did good there but his best, and biggest damage came from the slot.

Austin Collie was a 2009 fourth-round pick of the Colts, and spent time this year in training camp with the 49ners before being released during the team’s final cut downs.

He has worked out for other teams, including the Patriots, and has finally signed with a team he can contribute too this year.

His best season came during his rookie year in 2009 during which he managed 60 catches for 676 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also caught 17 passes for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns in the postseason that year.

In 2010 with the Colts he caught 58 passes for 649 yards and 8 touchdowns, playing in 9 games.

Austin Collie is 6’0 foot tall and 200 pounds, and only 27 years old.
