The Patriots make a statement in big win over the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome.

The Patriots would march with their runningbacks in the 2nd series of the game up the field on Atlanta. Brady threw a short pass to Stevan Ridley that went for 24 yards and then the Pats ran it 6 straight times to end the first quarter. To start the 2nd the Pats came out running again and ran it 4 straight times to get to Atlanta’s 1 yard line. A Brandon Bolden TD was brought back because his knee touched first. On 3rd and 1, Brady would throw a beauty over the Atlanta defense to Tight End Matthew Mulligan for the score.

The Falcons would take the ball to New England’s 7 yard line but instead of kicking the field goal they opted to go for it, and the Pats stood tall and Atlanta turned it over on downs. The Patriots would kick a field goal to go up 10 – 3 over Atlanta but left too much time on the clock for Matt Ryan. The Falcons marched it up the field quickly, and Ryan connected with Tony Gonzalez for the 21 yard td score. The Falcons tied it up, 10 – 10 at the half.

The Patriots would begin the second gathering up penalties that put them in no mans land on 4th and 20th and New England punted, giving the Falcons good field position but the defense held strong. On the 2nd series the Patriots would drive the ball from the 7 yard line all the way to the Falcons 4 yard line before settling for the field goal to take the 13 – 10 lead. With about 5:24 left in the 3rd the Patriots began to bring the pressure on Matt Ryan. Joe Vellano got to Ryan on a sack which resulted in a 13 yard loss.

The Patriots would have the ball at the start of the 4th and cue the scoring. LeGarrette Blount broke a run for 47 yards and scored a touchdown to put the Pats up 20 – 10 with 14:26 to play.

A pass interference call on Talib would help move the Falcons up the field to the Pats 23 yard line. On 3rd and 5 the Pats would bring the pressure and rookie Michael Buchanan would sack Ryan and force them to a field goal.

Next series for the Patriots, Brady answered on a 3 and 8 to Edelman for 44 yards setting New England up at the Atlanta 18 yard line. Brady would then connect with Kenbrell Thompkins on a beautiful throw and catch for the 18 yard score and up goes New England, 27 – 13 with 9:43 to play.

On the Falcons first play, Ryan would throw an interception to Aqib Talib, the pass was intended for Julio Jones. Talib had been shadowing Jones most of the game, and was amazing in his coverage of the WR. Talib had a great game and had a huge hand in the Pats winning.

Gostkowski, who had a good game, made a 49 yard field to put the Pats up 30 – 13 with 6:18 left in the 4th.

With 4:22 seconds left Ryan connected with Tony Gonzalez again for the 11 yard score to make it 30 – 20. The Falcons would then go for the onside kick and Sudfeld couldn’t hold onto it and the Falcons recovered it, giving them new life in the game. The Patriots defense would hold strong and keep Atlanta to a field goal, but Atlanta would pull closer, 30 – 23. Atlanta was only down by 7 with 2:55 seconds left in the game.

The Patriots ran it down to the 2 minute warning and came back out on a 3&1 play and handed it to Blount, who looked to have the first down. He was ontop of bodies and fell forward for the 1st but the refs marked him short and then replayed agree. I strongly disagree, Blount had the first. On 4th and 1 the Pats go for it, but Brady fumbled the snap, he recovered it, but short of the marker, and Atlanta took over on downs with 1:50 seconds left.

Matt Ryan hit Julio Jones for a 49 yard pick up and the Falcons were in business at the Patriots 13 yard line.

QB Matt Ryan threw two straight incompletions and then on 3rd and 10 he hit the RB Rodgers for a 3 yard pick up, setting up a 4th&7 with the game on the line. Ryan threw a pass to Roddy White in the endzone but Aqib Talib broke it up on a beautiful defensive play.

The game was over and the Patriots beat the Falcons 30 – 23.

The Falcons fall to 1 – 3 on the season while the Patriots move to 4 – 0.
