In this upcoming Sunday Night’ game, Tom Brady will take his Patriots to Atlanta to face off against the tough Falcons. The Patriots offense this year is weak, we know that. With rookie wide receivers and inconsistent halfbacks, offensively New England has lost their touch. Although Kenbrell Thompkins had two touchdowns in last week’s victory over the Bucs, he was targeted seven times by Brady and only caught three of those. That is not high caliber wide receiver quality. Maybe this week instead of an offensive figure having to step up, it may be a defensive player that drives the Pats to 4-0.
The Falcons of a mediocre running game at best, so we will look to see how well New England’s pass defense can perform. Atlanta has numerous amounts of strong targets for Matt Ryan to throw the ball to. Out of all the targets Matty Ice has, Julio Jones sticks out the most. In three weeks alone Jones has 373 yards off of 27 receptions for 2 touchdowns. Those are Pro Bowl type of stats. The Patriots need to strongly mark Julio Jones, holding him to little to no yardage.
I think Aqib Talib is suited perfectly for this challenge. Talib leads the league in interceptions with three INT in three weeks. Talib has only had to deal with low-level receivers like Stephen Hill, Stevie Johnson, and Mike Williams. It’s time for Talib to show if he’s got what it takes to be a top-notch defensive back. I predict that Talib will have an outbreak game this week, sticking to Julio Jones like white on rice. If in fact Aqib can increase his INT total to four, this will be his second time picking off Matt Ryan. The first time being his first ever career interception in 2008, Week 2.
