Jets center Nick Mangold made a late hit around the knee area of Aqib Talib at the end of the game that started a scuffle between the two teams.

Aqib Talib intercepted a Geno Smith pass and took his time getting out of bounds, he finally jumped and spined out of bounds only to be hit at the knees by Nick Mangold. Talib landed awkwardly but jumped up and went on celebrating down the sideline, behind the Patriots bench. The Patriots defensive players took exception to Mangold’s late hit and shoved him which lead the Jets offensive players to defend their guy. A scuffle began with a lot of players from both side.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson threw some punches at Vince Wilfork which lead to Ferguson getting ejected, and then Jets player Willie Colon was ejected for shoving an official when he was in the scuffle.

I wouldn’t have been too upset about the Mangold hit on Talib if he didn’t dive for the knees. Diving for someone’s knees is a good way to get them seriously injured, and sometimes it ¬†happens and it is an accident but this wasn’t an accident. Mangold didn’t like Talib trying to find a hole before finally dancing his way out of bounds, and dove to hit him. But it wasn’t just a normal retaliation against Talib by shoving him on out of bounds, or trash talking him, but a dive to knees which is very dirty.

I don’t know how you can argue that Mangold’s hit wasn’t a late, dirty hit. He jumped at his knees on purpose. In my personal opinion he needs to be handed a suspension.

The NFL protects players from high hits, but the low hits could be potential career enders and the league has done nothing to stop them. And this was a dirty play on purpose.

Belichick began screaming at the officials to get the two ejected players off the field before play resume, and finally the two ejected players took their walk of shame across the field and into the locker room. The handshake between the two head coaches was a very quick one.

Nick Mangold on his hit, “I didn’t do anything. I made the tackle. He was along the sideline. I obviously could not play defense in this league because I thought he was still in bounds, so I tried to make a tackle.”

Mangold also commented on Belichick being upset about his hit on Talib.

“He got heated about it,” Mangold said. “I was a little surprised by that. I figured he’d have a little bit more poise. But it’s obviously an intense game, intense rivalry and tempers flare. I’m not really sure (what Belichick said). I didn’t catch it. There was a decent amount of yelling. So I couldn’t tell you. You’ll have to go to the NFL mics. I’m sure they’ve got plenty around.”
