The Jets and Patriots will renew their hatred for each other tomorrow night in a Thursday Night Showdown on NFL Network.
With the game quickly approaching lets take a look a 3 players from each team to watch for.
1. DT Sheldon Richardson -
The rookie defensive linemen out of Missouri brings his passionate, fiery play to Foxboro tomorrow night. The lineman made his presence felt in his first game in the NFL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording 7 total tackles, and half a sack. That is quite the debut in a rookie’s first game. The Patriots had a tough time blocking the Bills offensive linemen, and now the Jets line will come in boasting a rookie who’s ready to make an impact. Slowing down Richardson is a must for New England’s offensive line that was shaky Sunday.
2. TE Kellen Winslow -
Kellen Winslow enjoyed a great day facing the Buccaneers. He caught 7 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown. QB Geno Smith and Winslow seem to have great chemistry together, and Smith fully trusts Winslow. Winslow is Smith safety valve, and he will look to target the tight end quite bit tomorrow night.
3. WR Stephen Hill –
Jeremy Kerley is doubtful tomorrow night with a concussion, and he was becoming a favorite target along with Winslow in the game, but now Kerley won’t be there Thursday. Kerley had 3 catches for 45 yards before going down with the injury, and who knows how much the Jets will use Santonio Holmes tomorrow night. Holmes had 1 catch in the game vs Bucs, so 2nd year man Stephen Hill will have to step up his game versus the Patriots. Hill caught 6 passes against the Bucs but for only 39 yards. He will need to help out Winslow in the passing the game if he, and the Jets want any success.
1. WR Julian Edelman –
Edelman had 2 touchdown grabs for the Patriots in their Sunday win over the Bills. Amendola looks like he won’t be going tomorrow night, neither does Zac Sudfeld, and RB Shane Vereen will not be either so the Patriots need Edelman to step up and have a great night. Edelman will be the expected starter in place of Amendola, and is expected to get a lot of work over the middle. Edelman is a good player who needs to have a big night tomorrow.
2. DE Chandler Jones -
The Patriots defensive line really needs to step up their play and get to the QB. Putting pressure on a rookie QB is a great way to get them to make mistakes. The Jets offensive line gave up 5 sacks against the Buccaneers so it is inexcusable for the Patriots not to generate pressure. Chandler Jones will need to provide the way for the defense.
3. OL Ryan Wendell and Dan Connolly -
That is two players but I will add them together since they both struggled against the Bills complicated blitzes Sunday. Guess who loves to blitz, and loves to make em complicated? Rex Ryan and the Jets. New England needs to clean up the protection issues and fast! Brady doesn’t like to be under constant pressure, and he really doesn’t like to be hit, but Sunday against the Bills, he was hit, and pressured throughout the entire game. The pair graded a – 2.9 in the Bills game which is horrible. They have to perform so much better Thursday night. Won’t be easy for the pairing either, going against a talented Jets line.
