The Patriots and Bills are facing off in less than one hour, we are taking a look at players to watch on each side today.
Cornerback, Leodis McKelvin, Bills: Leodis McKelvin will be the main guy in the backfield today with Byrd and Gilmore being out. McKelvin had a good preseason, and can play good coverage against any wide receiver. Look for him today in a matchup against a Pats wide out because if anyone will pick off Brady, it’s this guy.
Defensive End, Chandler Jones, Patriots: Jones is coming into this game with a lot of hype so it will be interesting to see if he lives up to it. Jones needs to provide almost constant pressure on the QB to ensure an easy win against their division rivals.
Linebacker, Kiko Alonso, Bills: The rookie linebacker is making waves in Buffalo, and giving the fans reasons to be excited about his play. Kiko has a blend of speed, power, and intensity that he will bring to the game, and will get after run carries and the passer. It will be interesting to see how good he does in an actual game, and if New England can handle him.
Linebacker, Dont’a Hightower, Patriots: Hightower is in his second year and just like Jones, is bringing a lot of hype into the season. Hightower’s specialty is blitzing, he applies excellent pressure on the QB, and is great in obvious passing situations. It will be interesting to see how much New England blitzes him (hopefully a lot, this guy was a beast in college doing this) and how successful he is at pressuring the quarterback. Watch for him.
Tight End, Scott Chandler, Bills: Chandler has enjoyed a ton of success going against the Patriots over the last few seasons. He caught a total of 3 touchdowns against New England last season and a combined 127 yards receiving. We will find out if New England has an answer for tight ends and runningbacks across the middle today, a problem they have had over the past few seasons.
Wide Receiver, Kenbrell Thompkins, Patriots: Thompkins had a great camp, and preseason that saw him climb all the way up the depth chart behind Danny Amendola. Thompkins is a true do it all WR, he can run routes, run deep, and is a 3rd down guy. Brady has looked to Thompkins a lot through the preseason and practices so we will see him look to the undrafted WR a lot today.
