New England Patriots Super Bowl Champs

Pats cut Cole, and Washington

The Patriots cut CB Marquice Cole.

Leaving the team with 5 active corners on the roster.

In a somewhat surprising move the Patriots released RB/KR Leon Washington.

Washington is one of just three players since he entered the league with at least 200 returns and a 25-yard average. He is tied with Josh Cribbs with the NFL record of eight kick returns for touchdowns. Washington was suppose to be the guy to give New England a respectable return game this season. The Patriots kickoff returns have been lackluster since 2009.

The candidates to take over Washington’s job are: WR Josh Boyce, RB LeGarrette Blount, WR Julian Edelman, and Matthew Slater. The most likely candidate is WR Josh Boyce. Boyce was the team leader in preseason kickoff returns, taking three for 73 yards.
