Kenbrell Thompkins , the 25 year old, who went undrafted out of Cincinnati, is making a name for himself in the NFL.

Thompkins was the bright spot in the beat down the Pats took against the Lions, hauling in eight catches for 116 yards, including a pair of big gains for 37 and 27 yards. He also leads all New England receivers with 13 grabs for 142 yards in preseason play.

Thompkins ability to grasp New England’s complex offensive scheme is very impressive. Veteran receivers Joey Galloway, and Chad Ochocinco both struggled with the playbook and it showed with lack of production. Thompkins is being rewarded for his ability to pick the offense up with a lot of reps during practice and game play, and he’s quickly becoming a favorite target of Tom Brady.

One of the things that stands out to me is Thompkins ability to get off the line quickly, and create space between himself and defenders, like he did repeatedly against Detroit. Thompkins is emerging as a potential breakout rookie this season, and earning the trust of Brady. He is playing consistently with good hands, ability to separate, and great route running. He gives the Patriots offense another 3rd down WR, and chain mover, along with Danny Amendola.

Kenbrell Thompkins also has a fire burning under him after not being drafted.

“It’s just definitely a moment that I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” said Thompkins. “Pretty much just sitting there waiting for that phone call and not to get it. That’s a guy’s dream, to hear their name get called. And for it not to get called, that’s just something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
