The Patriots will travel to Detroit Thursday for their 3rd preseason game.
The Patriots are looking to avoid a repeat performance in 2011 that didn’t go well for New England. The Patriots fell to the Lions, 34-10, as the offense and defense struggled mightily in the game.
“This is an important game because it’s an important step in our process to see where we’re at as a team,” Tom Brady said. “We’re going on the road, tough environment. We went there a few years ago and didn’t do very well, which we’ve already heard about that for three days now. So we’re going to have to do better than we did the last time.”
“I don’t recall the whole thing but I know we didn’t start the way we wanted. We were up and down,” Logan Mankins said. “It just wasn’t the way we wanted to play. I remember the coaching staff not being as thrilled about the game as they should be.”
Normally in the third preseason game, the starters get the bulk of the work, and that is why the players look to this game as being a very important one.
“Each and every week is big, but this third game you really get into really studying the opponent and really try to go out there and play well and put all the pieces together,” Mayo said. “It’s a big week for us.”
