The New England Patriots completed their 6th day of training camp practice.
Aaron Dobson who sat out the 5th practice Tuesday was back in action today and looked great. Armstead was still out, and Julian Edelman made his return.
The Quarterbacks: Tom Brady had a good day and even though he has thrown 4 interceptions through the first 6 days of practices he is having a great camp. Brady is getting use to all these new receivers who are not quite use to the system yet. Brady does seem to be getting into more and more chemistry with Aaron Dobson though, the two connected on a beautifully thrown and catch ball today, 40 yards down the field. Brady also connected with rookie WR Kenbrell Thompkins on a long pass that traveled 50 yards. Brady, and Amendola continue to look good together, and at the end of practice Brady and Amendola took a knee on the side of the field, and Brady drew up a play in the grass. Ryan Mallett had a quiet day but good day. He is looking more comfortable out there after a shaky start. Tebow ran a lot of run read option today, more than he has in previous days. Tebow did have some bad throws and recklessly scrambles while holding onto the ball for too long, but it was one of his best days in camp so far. Still, working closely with Brian Daboll, Tebow threw some lasers into traffic. He hit Brandon Ford down the seam for a big play, and later on threw a TD pass to Quentin Sims in the corner end zone on a deep throw.
The Runningbacks: Stevan Ridley is easily the number one guy at RB and has been having solid practices after fumbling it a few times earlier in the week. Blount, Washington, and Vereen are all getting plenty of reps to make a spot at the RB position. Washington will make the team as the return specialist, the question is will he play some runningback this year? Vereen will be there, of course, he is a hybrid back who plays in the slot as well. Brandon Bolden who has been dealing with injuries here lately causing him to miss practice was in uniform again but spent most of the time working on the lower end of the field. Blount has been getting a lot of reps and has been trying to earn a spot on the team. Bolden and Blount are battling for that 3rd spot, they both could make the team, but I’m not sure if that will happen. Bolden had a good rookie year before a suspension and an injury took him out for the season, but he isn’t practicing much while Blount is, that has to worry the 2nd year RB. How can he win the job if he isn’t on the
The Wide Receivers: Aaron Dobson has been most impressive so far. He is earning more of Brady’s trust which is leading to more looks from his QB. Dobson made a great one handed catch today. He also snagged a deep pass from Brady. Amendola is obviously the guy Brady trust the most and has best chemistry with. Josh Boyce is a fast guy but the drops are hurting him most in camp. He has had too many drops through out camp, and had another bad drop today.
The Tight Ends: Daniel Fells has looked the best so far. Ballard has had his moment, but also bad moments too. Fells has been very good almost every practice. He has been making impressive catches and is always getting open smoothly. Fells is a guy to watch at camp.
The Defense: Aqib Talib has been the best corner so far in camp followed by Dennard. Talib spent some time shutting down Amendola in practice. He gets beat a few times but it has been a great camp for the veteran. Rookie safety Duron Harmon was working with first team in a session today, the first time he has done that. He and fellow rookie Logan Ryan have looked solid. Rookie linebacker Steve Beauharnais intercepted Brady in the end zone close to the end of practice.
The Patriots will hold another practice tomorrow at 2:20 p.m.
