Their has been some saying that if New England signs Ed Reed then they can let go of Aqib Talib and move Devin McCourty back to Cornerback. I just don’t get it to be honest because that would defeat the purpose of bringing in Ed Reed then because we would be back to missing another Safety with Reed and a Corner because McCourty isn’t good at that spot. When McCourty was at Corner, most Pats fan didn’t like it because he was routinely beaten, and routinely getting called for pass interference because he never turned his head around to find the ball. Talib allowed the Patriots to move McCourty to Safety which is where he belongs. McCourty is excellent at the safety position and with Talib as the Corner, opposite rookie Dennard, New England’s secondary suddenly was not horrible. New England should bring in Reed, sign Talib back, and keep McCourty at Safety, and then their secondary for the first time in years is set.
The impact of Aqib Talib was evident the moment he stepped on the field for the New England Patriots. The numbers for the pass defense improved with Talib, he made them a better secondary and allowed the defense wiggle room to make new moves, but without him, and McCourty moving back to Corner would send New England back to last September. Remember the game against the Ravens, week three, and how horrible it was? Yep, it would be back to that, and I don’t think anybody in Patriots nation wants that. McCourty is a very good, talented player, just more so at the Safety position. I don’t see any reason why New England won’t sign Ed Reed and Aqib Talib to the squad, and sure up a secondary that has been so poor the past few seasons.
Ed Reed is a must get for the New England Patriots. Reed is a veteran, leader, and great play maker in the secondary, something New England has been missing. Ed Reed is also a physical player which New England severely lacks in the back field. Ed Reed’s presence would do wonders for the Patriots defense and a team as a whole, and age really should not be a concern for New England. The Patriots QB is going on 36 years old and the time for a Super Bowl with the QB is running out, so more talent, less worrying about money and age, just for now at least.
