According to Boston news stations WBZ Julian Edelman has suffered a broken foot that will likely need surgery, and he looks to be heading to the injury reserve. Edelman suffered the injury during the Miami game, and was seen afterwards in a walking boot and on crutches. The Patriots are remaining silent on the injury to the receiver, and Belichick would not address the issue during his conference call today.
Edelman is a good player for the Patriots, and Edelman was a scoring threat not only on the offense but the special teams as well. At the start of the season some thought the Patriots were going to try to phase out Welker for Edelman, but as the season went on the Patriots used Welker more, and Edelman when Edelman was able to play and he added another weapon for Brady. Edelman can’t replace Welker since Edelman is rarely on the field, he has mostly proved this season he is injury prone, he hurts his hand versus the Ravens, he comes back against the Colts, and had a great game but played the Jets on thanksgiving day, and suffered a concussion, and in the very next game he ends up with a broken foot. Edelman so far has 21 catches for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns. On the special teams he has two touchdowns this season, a punt return for a touchdown and a fumble recover for a touchdown.
