No red zone weapons for the Patriots

Where are the red zone weapons for the Patriots? The inability by the Patriots to ice the game hurt their chance for a win in Seattle.

As many times as the Patriots were in the red zone its a travesty they only scored two touchdowns. The passing game was good for the first half and stalled out mightily in the fourth quarter. Patriots for the second straight week had a hard time icing the game with their offense. They should have put the Seahawks away early in the fourth.

My question is where are the red zone weapons at? Who is our best red zone weapon? Gronkowski has not been the red zone weapon he was last season. He is 6’7 and easily our biggest target in the red zone but he hasn’t been much of a factor in the end zone. I think they need to throw it up and let the big guy go get the ball. Patriots must figure out a way to get him in a good match up.

Hernandez is another weapon and he went up for a touchdown grab in the game today. With him back it certainly helps but still our red zone offense struggled. I think he deserves more targets closer to the goal line. More throws to him and Gronkowski like the touchdown reception he caught will certainly help. They are big and strong let them go get it.

Welker and Branch are not the ideal red zone targets. They are short. Their slot receivers. If they are going to catch touchdown passes at the goal line its going to be either a few yards away from the goal line or right at the front of the goal line. They can’t go back in the end zone unless they are wide open to make grabs. They certainly can’t jump for the ball.

Brandon Lloyd I thought would be a good red zone target for us. Not much of weapon in the red zone so far. Not even a weapon for deep plays. I thought that is why New England brought him in. Right now through the season he has only been another route runner. He has the good hands and feet to run deep but it hasn’t been called much. We have been needing a deep threat and I’m still not seeing a deep threat yet. What is worse I don’t see a consist red zone threat either.

Tom Brady has got to stop getting ready to take a sack before the pass rusher even gets to him. He is still the best QB in the game but sometimes he can be to quick to take a sack. The intentional grounding now proved to be huge in this game costing New England three points. But still another red zone trip that was without a touchdown. The interception on the pass intended for Branch was a horrible decision by Brady. Why are you going deep to Branch a short WR who is not going to out jump the defender? Unless he had his guy beat like Welker did on his touchdown reception you don’t make that throw.

Bottom line the game should have been out of reach for the Seahawks by mid way in the fourth quarter if the Patriots were able to capitalize in the red zone.

I’m not above New England bringing in Plaxico Burress to be a good red zone target for the Patriots.  I know a lot of people do not like him but he is tall and has always been a good red zone threat. Mix him with Brady it might have great results.
