Bill Belichick Still Believes in Kicker Stephen Gostkowski

The Providence Journal reports that Bill Belichick is standing by kicker Stephen Gostkowski despite a pair of misses Sunday in Buffalo.

Despite a pair of missed field goals by Stephen Gostkowski on Sunday, head coach Bill Belichick said he remains confident in the kicking unit.

“That’s an operation that involves more than one guy. It’s not a pitcher taking the ball on the mound or a golfer teeing a ball up,” Belichick said. “It’s a snap, a hold, a kick – a whole process. We’ll keep working hard at it. I have a lot of confidence in those players – Danny [Aiken], Zoltan [Mesko], Steve. We’ve made a lot of them. Unfortunately we’ve missed a few, but we’ll keep working at it and try to improve it – coach it better and execute it better.”

Gostkowski missed from 42 and 49 yards out — the first time he had missed multiple kicks in a game since the 2010 season opener. Combine that with his miss at the end of the loss to Arizona, and Gostkowski is more than halfway to his total misses from 2011, when he was 28-of-33.
