Patriots Release Wide Receivers Donte’ Stallworth and Jabar Gaffney

Donte’ Stallworth’s and Jabar Gaffney’s return to New England was short-lived as the New England Patriots cut ties with the pair of veteran wide receivers Monday.

Stallworth’s release was reported Monday morning. The 31-year-old wide receiver didn’t have a good showing throughout training camp and the preseason. In New England’s Friday night preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Stallworth was credited with two drops.

As for Gaffney, his release was reported Monday night. The 31-year-old failed to stay healthy throughout training camp and the preseason as he had been dealing with a thigh injury.

With Stallworth and Gaffney being cut, the transactions solidify Deion Branch as New England’s No. 3 wide receiver entering 2012.
