Dane Fletcher Waived by New England Patriots

After injuring his knee in the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints, linebacker Dane Fletcher was waived by the New England Patriots Monday night.

Fletcher was projected to be one of New England’s top linebackers entering 2012. The soon-to-be 26-year-old played in a total of 10 games this past season as he recorded 32 tackles while forcing one fumble.

Following Thursday’s game, Belichick told the media that Fletcher “might be out for a while.” According to sources, Fletcher tore his ACL which ultimately means he will be sidelined for at least eight months.

Fletcher will be placed on waivers as the NFL’s other 31 teams will have an opportunity to claim him for the 2013 season.

The Patriots also waived wide receiver Britt Davis Monday and now have two open spots on their 90-man roster.
