Brian Hoyer Wants Out – And the Pats Seem Just Fine with It

The Boston Herald reports that backup QB Brian Hoyer may want out of New England, and the Pats don’t have an issue with that as Ryan Mallett is a guy the team wants to see more of.

The Patriots, obviously set with Tom Brady as their starter, may have a few more intriguing headlines when it comes to backup Brian Hoyer. The Patriots are at an interesting spot with Hoyer, who unsuccessfully tried to find a team to pluck him out of restricted free agency this offseason, according to a source. But with Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn on the open market and Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III in the draft, there was no market for Hoyer. … The chance exists that a job could open up this summer or before the trading deadline if a starting quarterback goes down elsewhere with an injury. Naturally, the Patriots should expect to field some calls about Hoyer and Mallett in that type of scenario.
