Patriots safety Patrick Chung is officially listed as “Doubtful” for Sunday’s game against the Broncos, but thanks to the return of NBA basketball, it’s a safe bet he’ll be downgraded to “Out”.
The club departed for Denver on Friday afternoon, but Chung was spotted sitting courtside of tonight’s Celtics’ scrimmage at the TD BankNorth Garden, Mike Petraglia of WEEI.com reports.
Chung, a 2009 second-round pick out of Oregon, has 55 tackles, one quarterback sack and an interception in seven starts this season, but has missed the last five games with a thumb injury. Sunday’s absence will bring that to six games.
The Patriots waived cornerbback Malcolm Williams and with Chung left behind, could add a safety off the practice squad. First-year player Ross Ventrone and rookie Sterling Moore are the prime candidates to fill the 53rd spot on the roster.
