Gronkowski Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week, the team announced on Wednesday.

The second-year tight end out of Arizona caught six passes for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Patriots’ 34-27 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Gronkowski had 116 yards after the catch and set the NFL single-season record for receiving touchdowns by a tight end with his first touchdown in the first quarter, adding to it with a 37-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter.

On the season, Gronkowski has 71 receptions for 1,088 yards and 15 touchdowns, adding a rushing touchdown in a Week 13 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Gronkowski had three total touchdowns against the Colts and was a nominee for Offensive Player of the Week.

Gronkowski is the second Patriots player to win Offensive Player of the Week this season, joining quarterback Tom Brady, who took home the honor following Weeks 1 and 2.
