Sources: Patriots release CB Bodden

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald confirmed that the Patriots have released veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden.

Head coach Bill Belichick would not confirm the report and said they have no announcement at this moment.

Pro Football Talk first reported that the Duquesne alum had been released according to a league source.

Bodden signed a one-year deal with the Patriots in 2009, starting 14 of 15 games and leading the team with 19 passes defensed and tying for the team lead with five interceptions.

Bodden’s performance led to a four-year, $22.03 million extension in 2010. Bodden spent 2010 on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

In five games, and one start, in 2011, Bodden has 17 tackles and four passes defensed.
