NFL Files Motion to Dismiss Brady v NFL

The National Football League has filed a motion to dismiss Tom Brady v NFL, the antitrust lawsuit the players filed against the league on March 11, Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports.

According to the Associated Press, U.S. District Judge Susan Nelson scheduled a hearing on the motion to dismiss for September 12.

The 2011 NFL regular season is scheduled to begin on September 8th.

Both sides in the league’s labor dispute have been urged by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to reach an agreement on their own. Prior to last Friday’s hearing before the 8th Circuit, the NFL and NFLPA met in Chicago for three days of labor talks that prompted U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan to cancel two dates of mediation that were scheduled to begin today, as the two sides were in “confidential settlement talks”.

Today marks the 87th day of the lockout.
