Merriweather’s Lawyer Says He Wasn’t the Trigger Man in Recent Shooting

Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather got some good news on Monday, as his lawyer says that he was not the trigger man in a recent shooting and should be off the hook and not be a suspect any longer in the case.

The lawyer for Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather says his client should no longer be a suspect in a recent shooting in which Meriweather was present.

Attorney Adam Swickle told the Orlando Sentinel that he delivered witness statements on Monday to the Orange County Sheriff’s office proves Meriweather wasn’t the shooter.

“We have confirmed that Brandon was nothing but a peace-keeper,” Swickle said. “All of the witnesses confirmed that at no point did Brandon have a gun, or threaten to shoot, and did not shoot anyone.”

At this point, the sheriff’s office will only confirm that they met with Meriweather’s attorney on Monday and the shooting is under investigation.

“We are not ready to characterize him [Meriweather] in any other fashion,” police spokesman Angelo Nieves said. “The investigation is continuing to move forward.”

So nothing is official yet, but Meriweather’s lawyers are confident. Patriots coach Bill Belichick roughly as forthcoming as Nieves when asked about the situation on Monday. “We’re aware of it. We’ve got nothing to add,” Belichick said.
