Fred Taylor misses another practice with toe injury

Things don’t look good for Fred Taylor playing this Monday vs the Dolphins, as he missed another practice with his toe injury.

Patriots running back Fred Taylor missed his third straight practice Friday with a toe injury as the team prepares for Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Taylor was knocked out of last Sunday’s win over the Bills in the third quarter after back-to-back carries. His injury led the Patriots to sign running back Thomas Clayton off the Browns’ practice squad Thursday, which could be an indication coach Bill Belichick is making contingencies in case Taylor is not ready for Monday night, and perhaps beyond. “We’ll see,” Belichick answered Thursday when asked if he was preparing to be without Taylor for a stretch of time.

“We’ll kind of take it day to day. I think he’s doing better. We’ll see how quickly it turns around.” Clayton, who spent the preseason with the Patriots before being released on Sept. 4, will have to count against the Patriots’ 53-man roster limit for at least the next three weeks because he was signed off of another team’s practice squad. “[Clayton] missed a little bit of time in camp. When he was out there, I thought he did some good things,” Belichick said Thursday. “With a little missed time in practice, I think that slowed him down a bit. We were impressed with his skills and thought in the preseason games when he had an opportunity, he showed up and did some good things.” With Taylor potentially out, that leaves BenJarvus Green-Ellis as the team’s No. 1 option at running back.
