Wes Welker: “No Issues”

ESPN’s Mike Reiss is reporting that New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was pleased with how his left knee responded to its first on-field test Thursday in Atlanta.

“There were really no issues,” Welker said Monday after taking part in the team’s afternoon practice. “I felt great [the next morning], stayed on my routine of warming it up, and made sure I was icing it down after and getting massages on it. Everything came out just fine.”

Welker in typical Patriot fashion was critical of his performance and found one thing he needs to work on.

“That (14 yard reception on the second play) was one route I could have run better,” he said, adding that he could have widened the cornerback more to give him more space to make a play. “I think I just got a little excited. Pre-snap, I thought it would be a big play.”

With the emergence of a talented crop of young talent at quarterback Tom Brady’s disposal that includes wide receivers Julian Edelman, Brandon Tate, Taylor Price, and promising rookie tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski, Welker’s speedy return from a serious left knee injury is an added bonus.
