New England Patriots Super Bowl Champs

New England prepares to visit Atlanta

Unlike their schedule with the New Orleans Saints this past week in which they had three joint practices, the Patriots will have just two joint practices with the Falcons — both scheduled for Tuesday. The Patriots’ final two training camp practices open to the public at Gillette Stadium are today (2:30 p.m.) and Monday (10 a.m.).

The Patriots will traveling to Atlanta for Tuesday’s joint practices and their second preseason game on Thursday in the Georgia Dome.preseason game. The man at the controls for the Falcons is now general manager Thomas Dimitroff, the former Patriots’ director of college scouting. He’s put his own stamp on the Falcons there without raiding the Patriots’ organization as former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has with the Broncos. Dimitroff’s first three moves as general manager was to hire head coach Mike Smith, draft franchise quarterback Matt Ryan, and sign free agent running back Michael Turner. Three pretty good moves, I must admit.

The Patriots passed their first test against the defending Super Bowl champion Saints this past week, and will have their hands full on Thursday Night with a talented Falcons squad eager to become a legitimate title contender in the NFC this season. Check back later this week for a report from Atlanta, and a preview of the Patriots second preseason game on Thursday.
