Patriots Injury Report: Bodden, Kazcur, Warren and more

With the injury bug biting a number of franchises around the league in recent weeks, the Patriots have emerged relatively unscathed, avoiding major injuries. However, there are minor injury situations worth monitoring as the Patriots first pre-season game versus the New Orleans Saints draws closer.

WEEI.com reports a total of 15 players did not participate in the afternoon session of practice,  the following players were in t-shirts and shorts: cornerback Jonathan Wilhite, running back Thomas Clayton, defensive back Terrence Johnson, defensive lineman Myron Pryor, defensive lineman Ron Brace and defensive lineman Mike Wright. The following players were not present: wide receiver Matthew Slater, cornerback Leigh Bodden, defensive back Bret Lockett, linebacker Gary Guyton, linebacker Derrick Burgess, offensive lineman Mark LeVoir, offensive lineman Logan Mankins, offensive lineman Nick Kaczur and defensive lineman Ty Warren.

Starting cornerback Leigh Bodden, who led the team with 17 passes defended last season, five interceptions, and one touchdown in his first season with the Patriots last year, appeared to slip awkwardly during a pass rush drill and looked like he injured either his left hip or leg, and limped off the practice field yesterday morning. Bodden was not present for the afternoon session. Bodden is expected to start once again, and is the lone veteran in the defensive backfield that features a number of rookies and second year players. The Bodden injury is worth monitoring because whatever it is, it was significant enough to keep him out of practice yesterday.

With last years starters on the defensive line Ty Warren and Mike Wright out of practice for the past several days, veterans Damione Lewis and Gerard Warren continue to see time with the first-team defense.

According to Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio second year defensive lineman Ron Brace has not passed his conditioning test, and remains out of practice. Boston.com reports Brace failed the conditioning portion of his physical and has not retaken the test because of a minor injury, according to a source familiar with the situation. Brace cramped up during his conditioning run before the start of camp and was unable to complete the sprints, the source said. Because he has not passed the physical, he is on the active/non-football injury list and is the only player in camp who has yet to participate in practice.

Offensive lineman Nick Kaczur remains out with a back injury, and reserve offensive lineman Mark LeVoir was added to the injury list yesterday.

The Patriots will be on the practice field today for a walkthrough at 10:00 a.m. There Patriots will hold a full practice this afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
