Bodden Speaks Out on Overcoming the Odds to Get a Long Term Deal

Leigh Bodden is back with the Pats, this after he became an unrestricted free agent last year after being cut by the Lions. He ran to New England, inked a one-year deal, and now returns with a lot more cash in his pocket.

Bodden tells the Boston Globe after intercepting five passes, recording 55 tackles and 18 pass deflections, he knew he was going to get the job done and get a solid long term deal somewhere.

This offseason, he inked a four-year, $22.5 million contract with New England, deciding to stay with the Pats instead of going elsewhere.

“I’ve been taking a gamble on myself for a long time now, and I just believe in myself, no matter who believes in me,’’ Bodden said. “Everybody talked about, ‘What if you get hurt?’ I don’t worry about that. I just try to go out there and perform the way I perform and let everything else play out.’’ ..

“It feels good that the team wanted me and felt like I was part of the team, and that’s pretty much what I strive for. It’s not about the money, but the commitment of the team wanting me to be here. So that was really good to see that the Patriots stepped up and wanted me to be here.’’
