Football Outsiders has out their list of “The Top 10 unfilled roster holes,” and the Pats make the list with their unsettled backup QB spot. Here’s the story:
2. New England Patriots: Quarterback
Lost in all the discussion regarding Matt Cassel and his eventual departure was the fact that it left the Patriots without a backup for Tom Brady. Tops on the depth chart at the moment is Kevin O’Connell; no matter what you think of Cassel’s performance, he at least had 39 pass attempts over three years before taking over in Week 1. O’Connell has six. Surely, adding some sort of veteran backup couldn’t have been a terrible idea.
