Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel said today that he never considered missing a game because of the death of his father, saying he knew his dad would have wanted him to play.
“I was just going to go out there and play my best,” Cassel said today, two days after his father’s funeral. “I knew that’s what my father would have wanted — for me to go out and play.”
Greg Cassel died suddenly last week at the age of 57. Cassel took a short time away from the team to attend to his family, but he said he was honoring what he believed to be his father’s wishes by continuing to play.
“I always felt like I was going to play,” Cassel said. “I took some time away last week and then came back and was able to get enough preparation in to go out there and play. I think that’s what my father would have wanted.”
