Watson Fined for $10,000 Prop Gag

After Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson scored a touchdown in the team’s 24-21 victory at Seattle in Week Fourteen, he put the football under his jersey, in honor of his pregnant wife.

And Watson will now have $10,000 less to spend on decorating the baby’s room.

Because Watson used the ball as a prop, he’s been fined.

“I have a baby due February 1st,” Watson said after the game, according to the Boston Herald. “It was a little shout-out to my wife back home in New England. It wasn’t worth getting a penalty. I didn’t know that I would get a flag. . . . I wasn’t trying to taunt anybody. That was just to her. It will be a little baby girl.”

Fine, but the rules don’t get any more clear than they currently are — use of ball as a prop equals 15 yards plus 10 grand, every time.
