The Matt Cassel-era begins for the Patriots this Sunday when they take on the AFC East-rival Jets at Giants Stadium. Cassel is starting in place of reigning league MVP Tom Brady, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week One. Cassel took over for Brady midway through the first quarter of the Pats’ 17-10 victory over the Chiefs. Cassel threw for 152 yards, including a touchdown to Randy Moss, who finished with six catches for 116 yards in the win.
The Brett Favre era began for New York with the Jets’ 20-14 victory over the Dolphins. Favre finished with 194 yards passing and two touchdowns. Thomas Jones ran for 101 yards and a score on 22 carries for the Jets. New England has won four of the last five meetings with the Jets, including a 37-16 victory in the AFC Wild Card game in the 2006 season.
