Samuel to Have Plenty of Interest in Free Agency

While he is certain to look for greener pastures, there are a number of teams that could use the services of a shut down corner like the Pats Asante Samuel, who is sure to command top dollar on the free agent market much like what former Bill now 49’er Nate Clements got last year. Samuel did what he had to do this past season, making plays for the Pats and staying healthy to make it to free agency so he can cash in.

As stated above, there are a few teams that could and would love to have his services, and here are just a couple.

1. Dallas – Though in the secondary they don’t play quite as physical as Samuel would probably like, what signing a player like Samuel would do is force teams to throw more to the second wide out, who then would be covered by now #1 corner Terence Newman. Being able to move Newman over and have Samuel up against the likes of the best in the NFC would be a huge help to a Cowboys team that feels it’s maybe one player away from being able to reach the big game.

2. Houston – The Texans have some issues in their secondary, and with some injuries in that department in 2007 they were picked on early and often. Adding a player like Samuel would take away a lot of those problems, and he would be able to hold up big AFC wide outs in order to allow that already improving Texans pass rush and linebackers to make some plays. The Texans are getting better, and some think with adding a guy like Samuel they could be talking playoffs as a wild card in 2008.

3. NY Jets – Eric Mangini and the Jets would like nothing more than to steal Samuel away from their arch-rivals in the AFC East. It would not only make the Jets better by a large scale on defense, but maybe on a more important level would hurt New England. Samuel is already well aware of the wide outs in the East, so getting known to them would not be an issue. It’s a game of one ups in the NFL, and the Jets would for sure get one up on the Pats if they could land Samuel in the Big Apple.

I really think that if Asante Samuel stays within the New England Patriots, he can help guide them to the Super Bowl and actually win it this time. Brady was hurting that day and had a bad game, if Samuel stays then defense can hold up well
