The Beat Goes On: Patriots Tame Bengals 34-13

The first four weeks of the 2007 NFL Season have been maddening! And I’m not talking John(sorry, couldn’t resist!) The inconsistencies vary from week to week where a team looks like a 98 pound weakling one week, and a super hero the next. There has however been one constant amidst all the flux of the “Season of the Bizarre” and that has been the sheer domination of the New England Patriots. And Monday night in front of a national audience they once again made an opponent embarrassed as they beat up on the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati 34-13.

New England quarterback Tom Brady again was almost eerily accurate going 25-32 for 231 yards. Brady threw 3 touchdowns and a pick, only his second interception of the year. Randy Moss 2 more touchdowns as he became the first player in NFL History to get over 100 yards in each of his first four games with a new franchise. Starting running back Laurence Maroney was  out with a strained groin, and Sammy Morris took advantage of the extra playing time. Morris a plugger during his eight year NFL career with now his third team had his biggest day as a Patriot carrying the ball 21 times for 117 yards including a touchdown. He also had a 49 yard run the second longest of his NFL career.

Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer did not have a good day at the office. Palmer went 21-35 for 234 yards but threw only one touchdown and two interceptions. The Bengals defense was sloppy at best, penalized at one point for too many players on  the field. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was livid after the game, saying if players did not want to be on the team to not show up at the stadium. The Bengals fall to 1-3.
