So it turns out “Captain Video ” AKA New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t need his camera man sidekick after all! The New England Patriots players knew that the best way to get past the controversy that had engulfed the team all week was to do it out on the field. Sunday night they left no doubt, that as far as they were concerned they were going to follow Belichick’s mantra on Friday and that was to go forward as they just dominated the San Diego Chargers 38-14 in front of their home crowd.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw two touchdowns in the first quarter, the first one to Benjamin Watson with 12:14 left on the clock. The second one was to Brady’s new best friend Randy Moss who caught a 23 yard pass to make it 14-0 with 3:55 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Pats would drive for a field goal and then Adalius Thomas picked off San Diego quarterback Phillip Rivers and ran for a touchdown to give New England a 24-0 lead at the half.
San Diego finally got on the board with 6:43 left in the third as Rivers connected with Lorenzo Neal for a touchdown. But New England would return the favor late in the quarter as Brady connected to Moss again this time for 24 yards to make the score 31-7 at the end of three. The Chargers and the Pats would trade touchdowns again in the fourth, as Rivers hit tightend Antonio Gates with a 12 yard pass to make it 31-14. But New England scored last as running back Sammy Morris ran to the left for a three yard touchdown.
Brady had another tremendous game going 25-31 for 279 yards throwing the 3 TD’s and a pick. Rivers was not as successful going 19-30 for 179 yards and threw two touchdowns but also two interceptions one being the costly pick to Thomas for the Patriots TD. After the game Coach Belichick praised his team for staying focused through a very trying week.
