Belichick Says He’s Sorry About Camera Incident
Posted by Jeff Sack on September 12th, 2007 filed in NewsNew England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addressed the media Wednesday morning, and said he was sorry for the circus like atmosphere surrounding his team in the last few days. The NFL is investigating into whether the New England staff tried videotaping New York Jets defensive coaches during their game on Sunday which the Patriots won 38-14. A security official confiscated a camera from a camera man credentialed through the Patriots. Allegedly there is tape of Jets defensive coaches giving out signals. Many New York players after the game said it seemed like New England quarterback Tom Brady always seemed to anticipate what the the Jets defense would do on the upcoming play.
The camera man who was caught, and had his camera confiscated was the same camera man that went through a similar incident last season in Green Bay against the Packers. The New England coach acknowledged that he had spoken with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on the incident and Belichick’s interpretation of NFL rules. He said the team had not been notified at this time about any league ruling, he said he would comment further on the issue when the NFL makes their decision. There has been speculation, that the Patriots if proven guilty, could be fined or lose future draft choices. Given Commissioner Goodell’s penchant for suspensions, that is certainly not out of the equation either. After a torturous Summer, this is not the way the NFL wanted to start off the 2007 campaign. New England was a pres-season pick by many NFL observers to get back to the Super Bowl this season. For one of the league’s elite teams to have this controversy surround them is just another black eye for a League that had taken some severe body blows in the last few months.
