The Boston Globe and ESPN are reporting that wide receiver Reche Caldwell was released today by the New England Patriots. An interesting move in the fact that Caldwell was the team’s leading receiver last season; the remaining WR’s on the Patriots are: Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker, Jabar Gaffney and Kelley Washington. Moss missed the vast majority of the preseason but prcolaimed himself ready to go in the Pats’ season opener on September 9 against the New York Jets.
The Patriots today also re-signed tight end Marcellus Rivers, claimed rookie linebacker David Herron off waivers, and signed seven players to their practice squad: WR’s Bam Childress and C.J. Jones, fullback Kyle Eckel, LB Corey Mays, offensive tackle Clint Oldenburg, defensive lineman Santonio Thomas and TE Jason Rader.
