The third game of the NFL pre-season is considered the dress rehearsal for the regular season. Games one and two are for experimentation, game four is for just getting though it without any injuries to key players. But game three is the contest when your starters are expected to jell, a preview of week one, and they usually play a major portion of the game. The New England Patriots after losing their first two pre-seasons, the Pats looked like they were ready for the regular campaign defeating the Carolina Panthers 21-7. New England quarterback Tom Brady(should we start calling him “Big Poppa?”) was looking in mid-season form going 17-21 for 167 yards and two TD’s. Patriots running back Laurence Maroney seeing his first pre-season action after recovering from a shoulder injury. Maroney shook off the rust pretty quickly carrying the ball 15 times and getting 58 yards. Things did not go as well for Carolina QB Jake Delhomme though he didn’t play badly going 11-18 162 yards and one touchdown. Matt Cassell and Vinny Testaverde both had their time in the pocket Cassell went 3-6 for 43 yards, Vinny went 0-2.
