Patriots Place 8 on PUP List

Chad JacksonThe list of injured Patriots continues to expand.  Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reports that the New England Patriots have placed eight players on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list.  Probably the most prominent names on that list include defensive lineman Richard Seymour, wide receiver Troy Brown, and WR Chad Jackson.  Others on the list include: tight end David Thomas, WR Kelley Washington, running back Justise Hairston, safety Mel Mitchell and cornerback Eddie Jackson.

Despite these injuries, there are replacements.  Expect either Jarvis Green or Mike Wright to cover for Seymour; also keep an eye out on Santonio Thomas, Kenny Wright, Kareem Brown, or Zach West as they try to impress head coach Bill Belicheck.  Probably the hottest battles going right now is at the wide receiver position.  Jabar Gaffney, Donte Stallworth and Reche Caldwell will attempt to distance themselves in the competition for the few open WR spots available.  A key thing to remember (I’m sure the injured players realize this as well) is that if they remain on the PUP list on September 1 (final day for final cuts), they have to remain on the list for the first six weeks of the regular season.
