Samuel And Patriots Fail To Reach Agreement
Posted by Jeff Sack on July 16th, 2007 filed in NewsReports out of Boston on Monday say that the New England Patriots and cornerback Asante Samuel never were even in the same zip code when it came down to the two sides coming together on a contract extension. Monday was the NFL deadline in negotiating a deal with a franchise player. If Samuel plays for New England in the 2007 season the most he can earn is $7.79 million which was the offer the team put on the table in order to make Samuel a “franchise” player. Last month Samuel said that he plans on holding out until the tenth week of the NFL season. Reports state that Samuel was looking for a deal that would have paid him about $10 million per season, it is believed that New England offered about $6 million per season plus bonuses that could have added up to an additional $13 million.
