Samuel May End Hold Out Sooner Than Later

Patriots corner Asante Samuel could end his holdout early in training camp instead of during the season according to a source clsoe to the team. Samuel could better showcase his worth over a full season that he starts in shape and decrease the risk of injury that would come should he jump into action halfway through the season. This figures to be the best solution for  Samuel who will get $7.79 million this season.

Nothing good comes out of a holdout, just ask S Todd Bell and DE Al Harris, who missed out on the best season of NFL history in 1985, during the Chicago Bears 15-1 run of dominance to a Super Bowl victory. They would miss a good season and playing time, come back way, out of “game” shape, and they would lose the money they both desire. To look back at Bell and Harris’ situations – they never recovered in their playing careers. They were not the same and they lost money and SB ring in ’85. Samuel’s play would drop off considerably and his value in ’08 would fall even more then Niagara’s water.

The right choice and professional way to go about business for Samuel would be to play out the full year, maintain a high standard of productivity, and earn a new deal from another team; for now he should just enjoy this NFL season with a team that is destined to go far into the playoffs.
